Urban Gyro & Chicken: Bringing NYC Street Food Flavors to Downtown Salt Lake City
At Urban Gyro & Chicken, we’re passionate about sharing the vibrant flavors and energy of New York City’s street food right here in downtown Salt Lake City. Located at 153 S. Regent St., our fast-casual restaurant opened its doors in July 2025, inspired by the unforgettable experience we had at a bustling halal cart in NYC.
Our founders, Shreyas Makam and Suvin Sukesh, both graduated in hotel management in India and came to the U.S. seeking new opportunities. After interning in Colorado and falling in love with Utah’s mountain landscape, we decided to make Salt Lake City our home and introduce a new, exciting food option to the area.
Our menu is rooted in halal tradition, featuring crowd favorites like our combo platter—a delicious mix of chicken, ground beef, and lamb gyro, all topped with our signature white sauce. For those who love a kick, we offer a fiery red sauce (rated five out of five on the spice scale), a medium-spicy green sauce, and a sweet sauce for balance.
We’re proud to serve the busy downtown lunch crowd and welcome guests in the evenings, especially during events at the nearby Eccles Theater. As Suvin says, “Street food has to be done right. There’s no place to hide.”
Vegetarians will love our Falafel Philly—a unique twist that combines crispy falafel with grilled peppers, onions, and American cheese, putting a new spin on the classic Philly cheesesteak.
At Urban Gyro & Chicken, our goal is to deliver authentic, bold flavors and a welcoming atmosphere for everyone. Whether you’re craving a hearty halal platter or a creative vegetarian option, we invite you to experience the best of NYC street food in the heart of Salt Lake City.
